RCB SWOT Analysis

rcb swot analysis

When there is one team that has been most disappointed since the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will probably be the one. They are the IPL’s constant underachievers. Despite having some of T20 cricket’s biggest names, they haven’t managed to get over the top. The Bangalore franchise has only made it to the playoffs on five occasions and has played in the final three times. They’ve choked quite a few times under pressure and just couldn’t find a way out. In addition, they have been a major let-down since reaching the final in the 2016 season and RCB has finished twice with the wooden spoon in the last three seasons. We will see here rcb swot analysis.

The likes of Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, and Dale Steyn are the big names that join RCB’s squad. They’d kept just 13 players despite finishing last in 2019. RCB underwent a mini-overhaul and had acquired eight more players for the season 2020.

RCB Squad:

Retained: Virat Kohli, Moeen Ali, Yuzvendra Chahal, AB de Villiers, Parthiv Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Pawan Negi, Umesh Yadav, Gurkeerat Mann, Devdutt Padikkal, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Navdeep Saini.

Bought (8): Aaron Finch (4.4 crore), Chris Morris (10 crore), Joshua Philippe (20 lakh), Kane Richardson, Pavan Deshpande (20 lakh), Dale Steyn (2 crore), Shahbaz Ahamad (20 lakh), Isuru Udana (50 lakh)

Strengths:

For quite some time now RCB’s greatest strength has been their batting. Their skipper Virat is arguably the best white-ball batsman right now, Kohli’s form is going to be truly crucial for RCB and the supporters are going to be expecting he will replicate the form he had shown in the 2016 edition where he scored four centuries.

Add a heading 25

The team’s order looks remarkably stable as Aaron Finch is an exciting batsman who can take the team match on his own.  Besides him, RCB has one of the finest T20 batsmen in AB de Villiers who is looking to make a comeback to the South African white-ball setup with the T20 World Cup around the corner. This time, RCB has made smart modifications to their teams and positions where they wanted them.

Weakness:

The Team’s death bowling has been a weakness since the first season. The death bowlers of the team are not very consistent, and they don’t perform at key stages. Mohammad Siraj and Umesh Yadav were expensive, particularly at RCB’s death, and this is certainly something that hurt them and will continue to do so especially if Kohli wants to play all three, also including Navdeep Saini.

Opportunities:

Devdutt Padikkal will have the opportunity in the batting section, as he came from the domestic circuit and had a great Karnataka domestic T20 tournament. In the swing department, RCB has some depth with the likes of Morris, Navdeep Saini, Dale Steyn, and Umesh Yadav. Navdeep Saini can now strengthen his ability in the bowling section and can also find his form in death overs that will be a real boost for both the Indian team and the RCB team.

Threats

To be a great team, RCB seems to have all the ingredients. But at the end of the day, it comes down to how they play together and under pressure. RCB would like to see Steyn 100 percent fit because of the kind of backups they’ve got are Kane Richardson and Isuru Udana who are decent T20 players but do not have Steyn’s scorching speed and precision.
