Punjab Kings Collapse to 101 in Just 14.1 Overs
The clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings turned into a one-sided affair, as the Kings were bundled out for a paltry 101 runs in just 14.1 overs. Punjab’s batting order crumbled under pressure, with none of their batters able to anchor the innings or resist RCB’s sharp bowling attack.
Priyansh Arya started with a boundary but was dismissed cheaply for 7 by Yash Dayal in the second over. Prabhsimran Singh looked aggressive, scoring 18 off 10 balls with two boundaries and a six, but he too fell quickly, caught behind off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Wickets continued to tumble, as Josh Inglis managed just 4 runs before falling to Hazlewood, who also picked up the wicket of Punjab’s captain, Shreyas Iyer, for only 2.
Nehal Wadhera tried to build a partnership but was bowled by Yash Dayal for 8. Marcus Stoinis was the only standout performer with the bat for Punjab, playing a fighting knock of 26 runs off 17 balls. However, the middle and lower order collapsed spectacularly. Shashank Singh, Musheer Khan, and Harpreet Brar offered no resistance, while Azmatullah Omarzai added a brief 18-run cameo before being dismissed in the final over of the innings.
The bowling performance from RCB was outstanding. Josh Hazlewood was lethal, taking 3 wickets for just 21 runs in 3.1 overs. Suyash Sharma also picked up 3 wickets and was extremely economical, giving away only 17 runs in his spell. Yash Dayal played his part by removing two top-order batters, while Shepherd and Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with a wicket each. Punjab’s innings ended at 101, a total far below par for modern T20 standards.
Phil Salt’s Firepower Ends the Chase Inside 10 Overs
With just 102 runs to chase, RCB’s approach was aggressive and clinical. Phil Salt was the hero of the match, producing a spectacular innings that ensured there were no hiccups. He smashed an unbeaten 56 off only 27 balls, hitting six boundaries and three massive sixes to dismantle the Punjab bowling attack.
Virat Kohli opened with Salt and contributed a steady 12 before falling to Kyle Jamieson in the fourth over. Mayank Agarwal joined Salt at the crease and played a fluent knock of 19 from 13 balls, including two fours and a six, before being dismissed by Musheer Khan. However, the result was never in doubt. Rajat Patidar came in and added the finishing touches with a rapid 15 not out from 8 deliveries, guiding RCB home in just 10 overs with eight wickets to spare.
Punjab’s bowlers had no answers to RCB’s aggressive intent. Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar went wicketless and were expensive. Musheer Khan and Jamieson each picked up one wicket but failed to stem the run flow. Salt’s onslaught ensured that the chase was wrapped up with a whopping 60 deliveries remaining.
Standout Performers and Turning Points
Phil Salt’s explosive half-century was undoubtedly the match-winning performance, as he ensured RCB’s chase was swift and emphatic. On the bowling front, Josh Hazlewood’s disciplined and incisive spell set the tone early, while Suyash Sharma’s 3 for 17 in the middle overs completely dismantled Punjab’s middle order. Marcus Stoinis was the only silver lining for Punjab Kings with his 26-run effort.
This dominant victory not only boosts RCB’s net run rate but also underlines their growing momentum in the tournament. For Punjab, it was a match to forget as their top-order and middle-order both failed to show up on the day.
