Punjab Kings produced one of the greatest run chases in Indian Premier League history as they defeated Delhi Capitals by six wickets in a breathtaking high-scoring clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Chasing a mammoth 265-run target, Punjab reached 265/4 in just 18.5 overs to seal a famous victory.
Delhi Capitals earlier posted a staggering 264/2 after a once-in-a-lifetime innings from KL Rahul. The star batter remained unbeaten on 152 from just 67 balls, smashing boundaries all around the ground in a masterclass of timing and power. Rahul became the first Indian batter to score 150 or more in IPL history.
Rahul found ideal support from Nitish Rana, who blasted 91 off 44 deliveries. The pair added a sensational 220-run partnership for the second wicket, completely dominating the Punjab attack after the early dismissal of Pathum Nissanka. Delhi looked certain winners at the innings break with the highest total in their franchise history.
But Punjab Kings responded fearlessly. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh came out attacking from ball one, hammering 116 runs in the powerplay and putting Delhi under immediate pressure. Priyansh smashed 43 off 17 balls, while Prabhsimran tore into the bowling with a stunning 76 from just 26 balls.
After the explosive start, captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the chase brilliantly with an unbeaten 71 off 36 balls. He held his nerve in the middle overs and accelerated perfectly at the finish, ensuring Punjab crossed the line with seven balls remaining.
The match also saw concern for Delhi when Lungi Ngidi suffered a head injury while attempting a catch and had to be taken off the field. Later reports said he was stable.
For Delhi Capitals, it was a heartbreaking defeat despite posting 264 runs. Poor fielding, dropped chances, and Punjab’s fearless intent turned what seemed an impossible chase into a historic win. For Punjab Kings, the result strengthened their position at the top of the table and confirmed them as serious title contenders in IPL 2026.
