Rohit Sharma had an amazing outing on July 12 in the first ODI against England at the Oval in London,he was absolutely phenomenal and absolutely crushed the bowling attack of England even though they had almost no chance at turning around the outcome of the game.
Even though he did not manage to win the man of the match award he was still in the limelight with a 76 run knock staying not out.
Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan remained unbeaten with a score of 114 securing a 10 wicket victory over the hosts who were quite poor in terms of their batting performance with the whole team collapsing for a mere 110 runs in the 50 over format. Bumrah was extremely sensational and single handedly took down the England team without any of them having any counter to his bowling.
Rohit’s knock was laced with six fours and five sixes that showed his dominance over the English bowlers, although it was very unfortunate that one of these went onto hit a 6 year old girl in the stands.
It was in the fifth over of India’s run chase Rohit smashed Willey for a huge six over the long leg region, the girl in the line of the ball failed to get out and unfortunately she managed to get hit by the ball, the ball going into the stands is a very common instance but its not very often when someone gets injured due to this.
“It seems someone in the crowd may have gotten hit by this six from Rohit Sharma. Fingers crossed nobody is hurt,” Atherton said.
“Yes, it looks that way. The way Rohit is looking towards that area, he might have got the message. It probably hit someone,” Shastri said.
Eventually the official twitter of BARMY also tweeted that 6 year old Mira was hit with the ball but the England physios were quick enough to attend her and make sure that nothing has gone wrong, however later it was figured that the girl did not suffer any significant injuries which was good as it would have been a harsh moment for Rohit if his shot would have injured an innocent viewer.
Later on Mira was even paid a visit by Rohit Sharma personally and he also checked up on her to make sure that nothing has gone wrong, it must’ve been an eventful day for the little girl. But like it is always said all’s well that ends well therefore it must have been a relief for Rohit and a moment of joy for the girl because she got to meet such a coveted cricketer.
After securing the victory in the first ODI, India will be facing England in the 2nd ODI on 14th July 2022 Thursday.
