Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with 168 runs for the loss of 6 wickets defeated the Mumbai Indians (MI) who had scored 132 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
The captain of the LSG team managed to score his 3rd century against the MI team. This is an IPL record.
The line-up for batting of the MI team seemed to fizzle out once more and this led to their 8th straight loss of this season. This is the only team without any win. They had to chase a score of 169 runs. This score seemed gettable due to a crowd support, dew, and short boundaries. It seems that ‘bad’ luck is following this team closely as they had slipped from 49 runs for 0 to 67 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. They required two runs in every ball and this team depended on Kieron Pollard for this.
LSG started ‘bad’
The batters of the LSG team found it tough to score with the bowling of the MI team initially. Hrithik Shokeen was given the 2nd over by Rohit. He conceded only 4 runs. Quinton de Kock was dismissed for 10 by Jasprit Bumrah, and Jaydev Unadkat and Riley Merideth managed to stifle Manish Pandey and Rahul.
The 4’s that Rahul managed back-to-back in the 3rd over by Daniel Sams made it possible for the LSG team to reach 32 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.
Rahul’s form v/s MI team on
Rahul, single handedly, could manage to bring up the run rate to 6 after the power play. His boundaries ensured that the run rate did not fall below 7 and he managed to bring his team to a total considered ‘competitive’.
Pandey fell at 22, Krunal Pandya was out for 1, Marcus Stoinis out for a ‘duck’, Ayush Badoni and Deepak Hooda were also dismissed at low scores.
Rahul managed to continue and reached 29 runs off 30 balls. He decided to take off to the fast bowlers and hit a 6 off Unadkat, followed by ‘back-to-back’ 4’s off Merideth.
The biggest over’s for the LSG team were by Sams, the 13th over, in which Rahul managed 2 sixes and there were 5 wides.
Fall of MI team
Ishan Kishan managed 3 runs off 12 balls and finally, fell for 8 runs off 20 balls. The bulk of the scoring for the MI team was done by Rohit. He managed to take the team to 43 runs for no loss. After which they seem to slip.
At 58 runs for the loss of 3 wickets, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav were brought together. Rahul handed over the ball to Badoni after 2 over’s. The 2nd ball of this offspinner got him the ‘big’ wicket of Suryakumar. Neither Rahul nor the spectators could believe this.
Tilak could manage to take Bishnoi for ‘big’ 6’s and also Holder for fours. At one time MI team needed 44 runs from 12 balls.
