Kings XI Punjab SWOT Analysis. IPL 2020

swot analysis of kxip

Kings XI Punjab begins as dark horses for the upcoming edition as one of the three teams yet to win the title. After choosing not to take part in the last season, Glenn Maxwell is set to return to the IPL in 2020 and is among the players to look out for. here you will get swot analysis kxip.

West Indies speedster Sheldon Cottrell (₹ 8.5 crores), Chris Jordan (₹ 3 crores), India leggie Ravi Bishnoi (₹ 2 crores), and Jimmy Neesham (₹ 50 lakhs) were among the other players roped in to support the Kings XI Punjab Squad by 2020.

The Anil Kumble coached unit finished the auction very cleverly by waiting to pick up the players they needed at the right prices.

Let’s do a SWOT analysis for Punjab to plunge deeper into the IPL 2020 Kings XI Punjab Team.

Strengths

Big strength for KXIP is the opening pair of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle. The Indian wicket-keeper batsman finished 2nd on last season’s list of top run-scorers, with 593 runs in 14 games at a brilliant 53.90 average and 135.38 strike rate. Gayle was equally effective in 13 games, with 490 runs, at a phenomenal 153.60 strike rate.

Glenn Maxwell certainly brings in the X-factor to the Punjab unit. The Aussie all-rounder adds depth to the batting group. Just a day after the IPL Auctions, Maxwell smashed a six laden 83 off 39 deliveries for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. Not to be forgotten, they’ve got KL Rahul on top, who is in the form of his life.

Mandeep Singh, Deepak Hooda, and Krishnappa Gowtham may bat at six or seven and may be promoted to three among Maxwell or Pooran. The greater strength is the versatility that this squad has along with the price.

Weakness:

During the transfer window, KXIP traded Ravichandran Ashwin to Delhi Capitals. The spinning department now lacks the experience with the most experienced spinner published, despite having adequate variety and quality. The spin team will be handled by Mujeeb, Ravi Bishnoi, Gowtham, and Suchith, with Maxwell and Hooda chipping in as part-timers.

The inexperience is something other teams might manipulate. With Kumble as the coach, however, the limitation is unlikely to bother them much.

Chris Jordan is the latter’s only reliable death bowler. Mohammed Shami has so far been hot and cold in death overs and other Indian pacers lack experience in the squad. In the scenario, if Shami gets injured, they will have a huge headache in filling up their shoes as all backups are relatively new at this stage.

Opportunities:

The explosive Maxwell, Mayank Agarwal, and Mandeep Singh have enough firepower to wreak havoc in the middle overs while Sarfaraz Khan could finish off things to the end of the innings. Recently purchased,

Chris Jordan is an excellent death bowler. Along with Shami, the English speedster can prove effective. Jordan is a good buy for Punjab with quicker deliveries, pinpoint yorkers and several variations in his repertoire. Chris is also a good fielder and can strike down a few runs in the lower order.

Threats:

The lack of experience in handling situations of pressure may haunt some of the youngsters and is a huge threat. Overall, KXIP doesn’t look like the winners of the series but still has a good chance if its players step up to the challenge.

KL Rahul will possibly be in the helm to lead KXIP in the 13th edition of IPL. Last season the enthusiastic opener was at its best and performed without much pressure.

It’s going to be interesting to see how he approaches captaincy and whether runs can flow as easily as possible once he leads the team. It may prove to be a good move, but it is also a potential threat.
