IPL 2022 Match on 26th March 2022

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was defeated by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in this first match of the IPL2022 on Saturday, the 26th March 2022. They won this match by six wickets. This match was played in Mumbai in the Wankhade Stadium.

The CSK team was restricted by the impressive bowling of the KKR team. They managed to make a mere 131 for 5 wickets before the very important innings of Shreyas and Ajinkya Rahane .

The openers of the KKR team had to chase a target of 132 runs and Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer managed to score 15 in the first 3 overs.

Rahane smacked the first 6 of the innings with sublime timing, off the 4th over that Adam Milne bowled. In the next over there were a couple of boundaries. This over was bowled by Tushar Deshpande. The majority of the hitting was done by this ‘right-handed’ batsman and at the end of the powerplay the KKR team was 43 – 0.

Dwayne Bravo was introduced in the 7th over of the attack and managed to get Venkatesh Iyer caught behind.

The next man in was Nitish Rana. He managed to hit 2 ‘fours’. In the 8th over that was bowled by Shivam Dube, 15 runs were made. Rana managed to smack maximum off Michelle Santner over the ‘mid-wicket’. This helped carry the momentum over.

CSK managed to bounce back by getting 2 wickets in succession. Bravo managed to get the wicket of Rana, who was starting to look dangerous, and Rahane, who was ‘well-set’, was dismissed by Santner at 44.

At the end of 14 over’s, the KKR team was 98/3. The asking rate was less than 6. The new skipper of KKR, Shreyas Iyer and Sam Billings were at the crease.

Both these batsmen, Billings and Iyer, managed to score in a steady manner. This helped them mount the pressure. KKR needed less than ‘10’ runs for crossing the ‘finish’ line. At this time, Bravo was brought into the attack by CSK and he managed to get the wicket of Billings. This was the third wicket.

At the time when CSK were batting, the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad was taken by the KKR team. CSK team was 35/2 at the end of the ‘powerplay’. Ambati Rayudu joined Uthappa at the crease. Rayudu managed to hit a ‘6’ over the cover stylishly. Uthuppa was out after the ‘right’ hander got out at 28.

In this process, CSK managed to lose another wicket after there was confusion in the middle. This got Rayudu ‘run-out’.

CSK found themselves in deep waters when Shivam Dube mistimed a ‘delivery’. He was ‘caught’.

The innings could be steadied by the joint effort of MS Dhoni and the skipper, Jadeja.

Dhoni managed 3 boundaries in the 18th over that was bowled by Andre Russell. MSD managed a ‘fifty’ in the last over. Jadeja managed to finish off the innings stylishly with a total of 131/5.
