Kyrie Irving’s potential fit with the Dallas Mavericks

Adding a player like Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks could make them into championship contenders. However, as analyst Chris Broussard said, there has to be worries about what Irving is going to cause in any locker room. Irving has ruined the locker room of multiple teams, and it might not be worth adding those troubles with a young superstar like Luka Doncic on the team.

There are multiple reports saying that the Mavericks are going to be interested in acquiring Irving, but according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, they’re hesitant about their offer for him:

“The Lakers and Mavericks have previously expressed trade interest in Irving and plan to talk with the Nets in the coming days, but both teams are privately expressing limitations on offering significant trade assets for Irving, sources said,” Wojnarowski said.

If the Dallas Mavericks knew that Kyrie Irving would just play basketball and wouldn’t have to worry about any outside noise, most teams would go after him. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

If Kevin Durant comes out and says that he wants to be moved, it would be a much better idea from Dallas’ perspective to go after him.

It’s uncertain what the offer would have to be to acquire Irving, but it would likely require a few picks and a couple of talented players. The salaries would also have to match, and if Brooklyn believes it could get more than just salary fillers, more than three first-round picks could be traded to a team. Most teams, including the Mavericks, likely won’t make a move unless Irving agrees to a contract extension.

If the Mavericks can get Irving, they’ll find themselves in a much better spot. The team clearly needs a second option, and Kyrie could be that guy. Still, is this worth the risk for owner Mark Cuban, or will he wait for a different star in the future?
