The NHL Trade Deadline is less than a month away. Teams will have until March 3 to make trades and bolster their rosters for a deep playoff run. Due to the number of expiring contracts in the NHL, some teams will be more active than others in the trade market.

With the NHL trade deadline approaching, let’s take a look at which teams we expect to be the most active in buying and selling key pieces.

These three teams are expected to be the busiest during an extremely anticipated trade deadline.

NHL Trade Deadline: These three teams will be the most active?

1) Vancouver Canucks

Bo Horvat was the first domino to fall for the Vancouver Canucks. They are in a very advantageous position to sell off multiple star players. Teams across the league would be willing to pay a premium for a goalie like Thatcher Demko. JT Miller, Brock Boeser, and Tyler Myers could also fetch them some nice assets at the NHL trade deadline.

The Canucks have underperformed and are likely headed towards a long rebuild. Trading key players like Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

2) Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets are in a very good situation right now for multiple reasons. Firstly, they are currently the second-best team in the Central Division with a 31-17-1 record. They also have approximately $2.1 million in cap space.

The Jets could easily add several pieces to a team that is already performing at the top of the Western Conference. They don’t have to worry about upgrading their goaltending. That means they can focus their energy on improving an already effective offense.

The Jets’ blue line is stacked with talent. So improving their top six might be their best bet. Both Timmo Meier and Jonathan Toews are rumored to be trade targets for the Jets.

3) Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks are poised to have one of the biggest fire sales in recent memory at the NHL Trade Deadline. Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Andreas Athanasiou, and Max Domi, the team’s four highest-paid players, all have expiring contracts. They could be on the move.

Even players with more years left on their deals like Colin Blackwell and Jake McCabe could be traded. But teams would have to pay a premium to pry them away from the Blackhawks.

Finally, Petr Mrazek will also be a highly attractive trade piece. There are a number of contending teams that could use more goaltending depth.
