Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury. The situation recently forced him to miss just his second game of the season.

After the team lost to the New Orleans Pelicans 128-117 on Friday, Booker and the Suns seemed hell-bent on revenge. In the game’s closing moments, Zion Williamson put on a show for the hometown fans with an incredible slam dunk. The Suns took offense to the late-game garbage-time bucket. Teams traditionally dribble out the shot clock in the final seconds of a blowout.

However, a hamstring injury kept him out of the teams’ rematch on Sunday. Phoenix lost 129-124 in overtime, its fourth straight loss and fifth in its last six games. With the Suns (16-11) recently falling from first place in the West, Booker’s absence could be huge.

Fortunately for Phoenix, he shouldn’t be missing for too long. According to injury reports, Booker had been listed as day-to-day with hamstring tightness. Despite that, he will be sidelined once again on Tuesday as the Suns take on the Houston Rockets (8-18). With the Rockets being one of the league’s worst teams, it seems as though Monty Williams is content to rest the superstar.

As some fans may recall, during last year’s first-round playoff matchup between the Suns and the Pelicans, Booker dealt with a hamstring injury. Booker left Game 2 of the first-round matchup with hamstring tightness.

Since then, the injury hasn’t seemed to bother him. However, coach Monty Williams explained to media members before Sunday’s showdown that Booker didn’t look like himself in practice. There’s no word yet on his status for the team’s clash with the LA Clippers on Thursday. With the Clippers and the Suns tied at 16 wins each, the Phoenix franchise will remain hopeful Booker can make his return.

Booker, a three-time All-Star, is averaging a career-high 27.4 points along with 4.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game this season. He is shooting 47.5%, including 37.5% from 3-point range. Booker’s high school jersey, No. 2, was retired at Moss Point (Miss.) High, a short ride from New Orleans, during a ceremony on Saturday. His father, Melvin, also has his jersey, No. 15, retired at the school.

Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
