Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been one of the biggest advocates of Dak Prescott since he took over for Tony Romo. However, many believe the 2022 NFL season has proven that he is the weakest link, including Stephen A. Smith. While speaking on “First Take,” Smith implored the Cowboys head coach to admit his mistake and agree with him. Here’s how he put it:

“Let me look into the camera and say this. [Is] Jerry Jones willing to admit I was right? I told you, ‘Ain’t nobody saying he’s a scrub. And nobody’s saying he can’t play.’ We’re saying the opposite. What we’re saying is he can. That’s why he got his money.”

He continued, clearly stating Prescott’s biggest failure:

“The fact of the matter is, since Dak Prescott has been in Dallas… he has not had one single trip to an NFC Championship game, despite the roster that has been given to him.”

Lastly, he questioned the owner’s true feelings on the quarterback:

“And you, a three-time Super Bowl champion, a Hall of Famer, somebody whose standard was championships, you celebrate players that don’t even visit conference championship games every chance you get. Are you willing to admit how ashamed you are of what you are seeing take place before your very eyes?”

Initially, fans were blown away by Prescott’s abilities in the post-Romo era. However, as the years have progressed, the quarterback’s playoff shortcomings have become more pronounced. Since 2016, he has led six seasons in which he has avoided losing more games than he’s won.

However, in January, his accomplishments have a clear ceiling through six full seasons. In his six years, he’s reached the playoffs three times. He hasn’t advanced beyond the divisional round in any season. In total, he’s won just one playoff game.

Will 2022 be the difference? Could this be the season the Cowboys shake the decades-long deep playoff drought?
